COVID-19 Vaccination

Vaccination Sprint July 2021

Teams of advisers will be knocking on doors in The Crays from Tuesday 13th July.

With the Delta variant now the dominant Covid virus circulating, we are working to increase the uptake of both first and second doses of Covid vaccine which we know protects against serious consequences of infection.

We have been doing well with vaccination uptake across Bromley but there are some areas with lower uptake. The door knocking initiative is targeting areas with less than 70% uptake in adults.

The Council is working with the South East London Clinical Commissioning Group to ensure that, in areas where there is lower Covid-19 vaccination uptake, residents have the information and support they need to decide to be vaccinated.

Part of this work will include door knocking by trained advisers who have been doing this work in other boroughs. They will be fully briefed by Bromley before they begin. An introductory letter will be door dropped prior to the doors being knocked to let residents know the advisers are coming and how they can help.  by providing information, answering questions and removing barriers to vaccination as far as possible.

The team will help by –

  • Explaining how to book a Covid vaccination
  • Giving information on the vaccination programme
  • Signposting a to accurate information
  • Feeding back any concerns to improve the programme
  • Giving information on testing.

Materials such as an introductory letter, FAQ handouts and ‘sorry we missed you’ leaflets will be carried by the door-knockers who will work in pairs. The advisers will also distribute Lateral Flow testing kits.

COVID-19 Vaccine: The NHS will get in touch when it’s your turn to be vaccinated – please do not contact the Surgery before then.

COVID-19 vaccination: why you are being asked to wait (EXTERNAL LINK)

The first phase of the NHS COVID-19 vaccination programme has begun. However, initially the vaccination will be prioritised for those aged 80 and over, care home workers and residents, and frontline health and care staff. These vaccinations will be delivered through a limited number of Hospital and GP Hubs. See this leaflet (EXTERNAL LINK) explaining who was chosen for the first group and why.

If you are in a priority group, when it is the right time, you will receive an invitation to come forward for your vaccination.  For most people this will be a letter, (some might receive a text from their GP practice), the practice or the national NHS.  This letter will include all the information you will need to book appointments, including your NHS number.

This is going to be a long-term programme and it will likely take until at least spring before all high-risk groups have been offered a COVID-19 vaccine.

Please help us and do not contact the practice or other NHS services to get an appointment for a COVID vaccination until you get this letter.   Please also continue to follow the national guidance to control the virus and save lives.

Information on the vaccine is available on www.selondonccg.nhs.uk/what-we-do/covid-19/
